Dancing in the New Moon

Yesterday, February 26, the monthly new moon grace the heavens at 10 a.m. EST. The new moon is a little different from the full moon — and not just because it's a totally different phase in the moon's cycle. Where each month's full moon has specific symbols and energies associated with it, the new moon's spiritual meaning remains the same each month. So, while the full moon speaks to the moment at hand, the new moon is a reminder of what remains constant from month to month.

When the moon is considered "new," that means it's invisible to the naked eye — and it only becomes visible again as a very thin crescent, usually a couple days after it disappears from view. Since this moment in the moon's cycle appears to mimic death and rebirth, the new moon is often taken as a sign of new beginnings. That's why new moon rituals in nature-based faiths involve cleansing, reflecting on personal growth, and other practices that are equivalent to hitting the spiritual "reset" button.

.

Astrologically speaking, the moon rules our inner selves and our emotions. So, even if nothing is changing in your life, you might feel different when the new moon rolls around anyway. Astrologers associate this phase with uncertainty and learning to sit with that feeling, rather than rushing from one thing to the next. For me, yesterday and today, I felt drained and at the same time, like I was on the verge of something new.

Simply put, each month's new moon is a fantastic time to prepare for things to come, and that could mean bracing yourself for a big change at work or accepting the fact that you don't know exactly what's coming next.

Of course, you might not feel compelled to prepare for anything, be it external or internal. If that's the case, it isn't the worst thing in the world to let the new moon pass you by. Think of it as another opportunity for reflection or to practice your moon magic (if you have a budding interest). But as we said before, there's always next month to give that cleansing ritual a try, if you aren't really feeling it right now.

Feb.26 – Mars conjunct Uranus (22:00 of Aries) (Feb.27 in UK, AU)

This new moon can be a potent, exciting and/or explosive time! Your energy level may be a bit wonky with a lot of ups and downs. However, there is also likely to be a lot of energy to harness for whatever purpose you want to apply it to – just don't expect to always be able to draw on it predictably or consistently. If you have wanted to take action to break free of old habits or patterns, this is a great time to do that. Or, you might want to begin a new project that is unusual or experimental. This spurt of energy probably won't last, so you'll need to follow it up with some structure, discipline and realism if you want to continue whatever you've started. In the meantime, make the most of this upsurge of energy, motivation and drive, but remember that if you become reckless or destructive, you'll have to live with the consequences.

The Moon and Mars are not playing nice. And if you're not careful there's a pretty good chance you could wake up next few days, with a case of the "regrets." Why?

When the Moon is in Aries we always feel a bit more confident and aggressive. It's like that little boost of "damn, I look good." This would all be well and good if it weren't for a poorly timed Mars opposite Jupiter. And Mars will be temping us to act without thinking. So it's more important than ever to LOOK before you LEAP, especially in love.

The best feature about New Moons is the feeling of starting anew, a fresh start, a new beginning. Although the New Moon data is not as popular as the Full Moon, the dates are sought out by many people who know just how meaningful the New Moon event can be. In the dark twilight of the black moon, we just don't sense the significance of the New Moon phase. We are less likely to look up when there is no moon visible.

When is the Next New Moon?

So many people wonder when the New Moon is going to occur because the day of the New Moon provides one of the best opportunities to finding success. Successful people know all about the Law of Attraction. The New Moon is an excellent step towards gaining (attracting) that same type of success.

The table displays the list of New Moon dates and zodiac sign. Eclipses always fall on the day of a New Moon (Solar) or a Full Moon (Lunar), they are less frequent.

Feb.26 – SOLAR ECLIPSE ~ NEW MOON in PISCES (08:12 of Pisces)

Long ago in a time far, far away, the original Star Wars movie introduced a new spiritual concept to the secular world: The Force.

It was neatly summed up as "an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us, penetrates us, and binds the galaxy together."

In astrology, this is about as good a definition of the Pisces archetype as one could give. Pisces represents the universal essence of All That Is and our interconnectedness within it.

Both Pisces energy and the Force are metaphysical in nature. Both may be used as a medium through which one might influence the physical world, yet each extends far beyond it.

In Star Wars, a momentous event could create "a disturbance in the Force." It is like ripples that are sent through the cosmos that could be perceived by those attuned to that subtle vibration. Similarly, people who are especially in synch with Pisces energy are often known to be very intuitive, even psychic.

The Force is portrayed as having a light side (associated with "honesty, compassion, mercy, self-sacrifice, and other positive emotions") and a dark side (associated with "raw emotions and feelings such as anger, hatred, greed, jealousy, fear, aggression, megalomania, and unrestrained passion").

Angels and demons were identical--interchangeable archetypes--all a matter of polarity. The guardian angel who conquered your enemy in battle was perceived by your enemy as a demon destroyer.

Moon Ritual for Birthing Your Wishes and Desires

Prepare for your new moon ritual in advance by setting aside a few minutes each month during the new moon phase to focus on your wishes. This will help give you clarity of mind and fill your heart with promise. If you miss the actual night of the new moon – you do have a few days afterwards to do the ritual.

When it comes to setting goals or planning ahead for your future there is no better time to get started than during the new moon. Intentions, stated out loud or written down on paper, hold power, so please take care in considering those things that you truly want. The saying "Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it." is fair warning whenever setting your new moon intentions into motion. But, no worries. The moon has its phases and so do our individual wants and needs. This is why it is a good practice to rededicate your list of intentions each month when another new moon cycle returns for a visit.

Prep for Upcoming New Moon Manifestation
  • Calendar - Keep a moon phase calendar hand to note the next upcoming new moon.

  • Schedule Time - Set aside 20-30 minutes to do the ritual itself.

  • Supply Suggestions - notebook or note pad, pens and colored markers, scissors, scissors, Scotch tape, assortment of candles, matches or lighter (matches are preferable), incense or smudging herbs, and meditation CDs

  • Sacred Space - Prepare yourself a sacred space where your will perform the ceremony when the new moon arrives.

Setting your New Moon Intentions in Motion
  1. Cleansing - Cleanse your sacred area with an opening prayer, a sage smudging, and/or by burning some incense.

  2. Candlelight - Light one or more candles. Choose colors that represent your birthing desires. Green for prosperity, red for passion, orange for creativity, etc.

  3. Centering - Center your being and calm yourself in whatever way is appropriate for you. Take some deep cleansing breaths, slip in a meditation CD to listen to, and/or leisurely sip on a cup of relaxing herbal tea.

  4. Making a List - Open your notebook, and date the first page. Write down these words "I accept these things into my life now or something better for my highest good and for the highest good of all concerned." or something similar. Below your affirmation statement, begin writing down your desires. Your list may consist of a single item or you may have several pages listing multiple items. Try not to limit yourself. If having many things in your life helps to fulfill you then don't deny yourself wanting these things.

  5. Renewal - During the month when an item on your new moon list comes to you no not merely cross it off of your list. Take the time to rewrite the list in its entirety eliminating the manifested item from the listing. Revising your master list in this way is highly recommended. At the same time you may add whatever else that you have decided you would like. Feel free to reword any of the original phrases to better suit your life now. It is natural that your desires will change as time advances.

  6. Manifestation Tools - A second notebook will be used as a manifestation scrapbook where you can paste in pictures or catalog clippings of items that you are wanting to manifest. Creating manifesting scrapbooks or vision boards is a fun project to undertake, enjoy yourself! You will soon be amazed how these things begin to find their way into your life once you start this process.

Each Month Rededicate your New Moon Intentions

Each month as the new moon returns be sure rededicate your intentions by renewing your list at a repeated ritual. This is accomplished by rewriting your list out using a fresh sheet of paper. Please don't get in the habit of simply scratching out the items you no longer desire and simply adding the new stuff to the bottom of your old list. You don't want clutter and sloppiness energies messing up the path meant to deliver new stuff into your life do you? Disregard any items that no longer feed your soul and add new things which will.

It is helpful to salt and pepper your manifest list with smaller items that will manifest quickly, such as tickets to the ballet, lunch with a friend, or a day at the spa. You may think that smaller things are too trivial to put on your intention list... Wrong! Things that tend to manifest with less effort still deserve to be written down. Write down everything that you desire, no matter how small or simple. If it is something that makes you happy, write it down. Manifesting smaller items on our lists actually creates a steady flow of chi giving your list a boost. Each manifestation, no matter the significance, creates movement, allowing a natural ebb and flow of the tides. We are dealing here with the moon cycles after all. Besides, sometimes we forget to appreciate the smaller pleasures in our lives while we are waiting for the BIG stuff to come our way. If you only write statements like, "I want to win the lottery" in your notebook then you are limiting yourself by not allowing abundance to flow to you from a multitude of avenues.
